Creativity vs. Format: Are We Truly Free?

Creativity vs. Format: Are We Truly Free?

Have you ever had a story idea that made you feel unstoppable—only to feel trapped once you started bringing it to life?

Imagination is limitless. But the moment we choose a format—book, film, game—it comes with rules, frames, and protocols. Every format has its own boundaries, and once we step inside, we unconsciously play by its rules. In a way, our creativity gets “hacked” by the format itself.

Even storytelling has a structured flow—introduction, anticipation, climax. These patterns shape how stories are told and understood. So, the question is:

How do we break through?

If we create a completely new storytelling format, will people even recognize it as a story? Or, as history shows, do we naturally adapt and evolve, discovering new ways to tell stories within new formats?

Are we at the edge of something new, or are we still trapped in invisible boundaries?

What do you think?
